polar air navigation

polar air navigation
Air navigation in the region of the north or south pole. Polar air navigation poses special problems because of the convergence of meridians, erratic behavior of magnetic compasses, unreliability of radio performance and scarcity of radio stations, and inaccurate or inadequate charts. These problems have been partially overcome by the exploitation of electronic and satellite navigation.
